This tribute was delivered at the book launch of Sagarika Chakraborty’s The Journey of A Mother describing her ordeal in Norway where their notoriously brutal and unjust child services, known as Barnevernet, confiscated her children. Mr Vinod Tikoo as member of the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights at the time played a pivotal role in securing the return of the children to Sagarika. After this case, he helped numerous other families facing child confiscation abroad to have the children repatriated to extended family in India. In this way, the children were atleast with family while the parents fought the case abroad. In every single case, the parents were eventually successful in proving themselves to be loving and responsible parents, and Mr Tikoo’s intervention tempered the trauma to the children of being separated from them unnecessarily.
